The camp was founded in 1987 at Hood College by Director Gail Howard as part of the Hood College Kids on Campus program. When Hood's Kids' programs closed in 2001, this highly successful camp was adopted by the Frederick Camerata as part of their educational outreach for students in the performing arts. It has been running sucecssfully for 34 years now, with graduates often returning as staff after participating in college level and professional level programs across the country.

 

The Frederick Camerata Musical Theatre Camp Program strives to provide students in grades 4-12+ (in the Fall) who are at all experience levels with opportunities to grow at their own individual pace. We try to provide quality experience and exposure to classical works not typically presented at their home schools or other local theatre programs, so that students can broaden their experience and not run the risk of returning to school in the Fall and doing the same shows over and over.
